the paramount cinema

The last of it's kind. The Paramount Cinema was one of four screening rooms built on film row in the 1920s. Movie theater owners from around the region would travel to Oklahoma City to view films, buy product and supplies for their theaters. Along with various film festivals scheduled for the coming year, we also screen motion pictures for all ages and lovers of all genres every Friday and Saturday night.

Film noir (film nwar) is a cinematic term used to describe the stylish Hollywood crime dramas of the 1940s to the late 1950s, particularly such that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual impulses. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography. Many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hard-boiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Great Depression. The setting at NOIR - Bistro & Bar, is inspired by cinema of long ago. Here you will enjoy specialty cocktails made from the finest ingredients including simple syrups and mixers made in-house by our professional bartenders and spirits distilled by local companies. Order a "Violet Femme", a delicious maceration of Queen Charlotte and March Violets in “Weinbrand” (distilled from grapes), with cane sugar for sweetness is our base, add gin, lemon juice and St. Germain for a glass of violet goodness. Or perhaps "The Ruby Slipper" made with Cappelletti Aperitivo, both orangey and herbal with a hint of sweetness. Sparkling wine makes the drink pop along with our house made grenadine and the gin brings it home. There’s no place like it.

Other drinks include "The Harpo", "The Argonaught" and "The Farley Granger." We also have a variety wine and local bottled beer.

Our soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts are aptly named after terms and endearments of the "noir era". Sink your teeth into a "D.O.A." or a vegetarian "Eddie G."

The proprietor and the chef have worked closely together to bring you inviting and tantalizing creations that will satiate your craving, desire, taste, and sweet tooth. We hope you will find our offerings tasty and appetizing as each dish is created to be palatable, savory or sweet as we found a particular flavor for each dish.

On the bandstand, you'll hear talented musicians and vocalists adding tempo and dynamics, both original pieces and popular standards, that will enhance the mood and vibe at NOIR. Click the Event tab for information.

Bring in a dame or a cat, cut the blower, and for a double-sawbuck, you can have a smell from the barrel, stuff your trap, and hear a canary. Just leave the gat in the boiler!  Oh, and no gaspers in the joint.

Enjoy the giggle juice!
